ANNE: THIS CHANGE WILL IMPACT THOUSANDS OF INDIVIDUALS ACROSS THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY. THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR AND INDUSTRY IS INSTALLING A NEW COMPUTER SYSTEM FOR UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT COMPENSATION AND THEY DO EXPECT THERE ARE GOING TO BE SOME PROBLEMS DURING THE TRANSITION, SO THEY HAVE ESTABLISHED SOME WORKSHOPS TO HELP WITH THAT TRANSITION. STARTING THIS WEEK, THESE WORKSHOPS WILL HAPPEN. THE ONES THIS WEEK ARE ALL FOR PEOPLE FILING CLAIMS. THE FIRST IS TODAY. THEN THERE IS ANOTHER WORKSHOP SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, MAY 22. THAT WILL BE FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO PRIMARILY SPEAK SPANISH. ALSO SATURDAY, THEY WILL BE ANOTHER VIRTUAL WORKSHOP FOR ENGLISH-SPEAKERS. HERE IS WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN DURING YOUR VIRTUAL WORKSHOP. YOU CAN LEARN HOW TO LOG INTO THE NEW SYSTEM. YOU WILL LEARN ABOUT PAYMENT INFORMATION, APPEALS AND FACT-FINDING. AND IF YOU HAVE A QUESTION DURING THESE VIRTUAL WORKSHOPS, YOU CAN SUBMIT YOUR QUESTION AND THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR AND INDUSTRY WILL THEN HOPEFULLY ADDRES

The Pennsylvania unemployment compensation system is about to undergo a major change in just a few weeks, so the Department of Labor and Industry will hold virtual workshops to help filers get through the transition.The new unemployment system is supposed to come with many improvements and be more user friendly. But the change will certainly come with some growing pains.L&I will hold two dozen virtual workshops to make things go as smoothly as possible.
